The Forum of Local Government Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has declared its strong support for Governor Seyi Makinde, rejecting reports of an alleged impeachment plot as false and politically motivated.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of Chairmen, Femi Falowo, the forum described the claims as baseless attempts by political opponents to create tension and destabilise the state.
According to the group, no administration in Oyo State since its creation in 1976 has delivered the level of development recorded under Makinde, citing achievements in infrastructure, economic growth, agriculture, youth empowerment, job creation, and women inclusion.
“It is expected that a performing leader will attract criticism,” the statement noted. “However, such distractions cannot overshadow the visible progress that residents of the state are already benefiting from.”
The forum added that while constitutional term limits will prevent the governor from continuing beyond 2027, his impact on governance in the state should be sustained through continuity of policies and leadership.
To this end, the chairmen pledged their readiness to support any candidate presented by the PDP in the 2027 governorship election, describing the party’s structure at the grassroots as united and firmly aligned with the governor.
Also speaking, the Forum Secretary, Sikiru Idowu Jimoh, dismissed the impeachment rumour as unfounded, insisting that it lacks both legislative and constitutional backing.
“There is no truth in the claim. It is nothing more than political mischief aimed at distracting the government from its developmental agenda,” he said.
Similarly, the Forum’s Public Relations Officer, Akinlolu Olugbade, condemned what he described as attempts by “disgruntled elements” to disrupt the peace currently being enjoyed in the state.
He warned that such actions were not only self-serving but also detrimental to the collective interest of the people.
The forum, therefore, urged residents, stakeholders, and political actors to disregard the impeachment rumours and continue supporting the administration’s efforts to deliver governance dividends.
It also called on those behind the alleged plot to abandon divisive actions and allow peace, stability, and development to thrive across the state.
