The Nigeria Police Force has ordered the dismissal and prosecution of officers involved in the fatal shooting of Mr Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State, on April 26, 2026.
Following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, all officers linked to the incident were immediately withdrawn from the Delta State Command and redeployed to Force Headquarters in Abuja for expedited disciplinary proceedings.
The Force Disciplinary Committee has now concluded its investigation, finding that the principal officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, acted in clear violation of Force Order 237 and established rules governing the use of firearms. His conduct was described as unlawful, unprofessional, and a serious breach of the duty to protect life.
Based on these findings, the Committee recommended the immediate dismissal of ASP Usman and other culpable officers. The Inspector-General has approved the recommendation, forwarding it to the Police Service Commission for final ratification.
Upon completion of administrative procedures, the affected officers will be handed over to judicial authorities for prosecution over the extrajudicial killing.
The Police leadership reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on abuse of power, stressing that no officer has the right to take life outside the law.
The Inspector-General also extended condolences to the family of Mr Mene Ogidi, assuring them that justice will be served and accountability upheld.
The Force is urging the public to remain calm and law-abiding, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
