Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde and the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, dismissing circulating rumours of an impeachment plot as unfounded.
The resolution followed Wednesday’s plenary session in Ibadan, where lawmakers reiterated their support for both the executive arm led by Makinde and the legislative leadership under Ogundoyin.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, representing Ogbomoso South State Constituency, moved the motion during the sitting. He described the allegations as “baseless, distracting, and politically motivated.”
Adedoyin stressed that the Assembly remains united and committed to its constitutional responsibilities, noting that no formal communication or process suggesting impeachment had been initiated within the chamber. He described those spreading the claims as enemies of the state and commended lawmakers for resisting what he termed an attempt to destabilise governance.
“There is no division in this House. We are focused on governance and delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo State through quality representation. The rumours making the rounds exist only in the realm of speculation and should be disregarded entirely by the public,” he said.
The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mohammed Fadeyi, who seconded the motion, also described the legislature as united. He commended Governor Makinde’s leadership, citing achievements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Other lawmakers echoed similar views, noting that the collaboration between the executive and legislative arms has strengthened stability and development across the state.
Also, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola maintained that the Assembly cannot be influenced or manipulated by any individual or group, urging those behind the rumours to desist. He reaffirmed the House’s loyalty to the governor and its leadership under Speaker Ogundoyin.
