Several Nigerian soldiers sustained injuries after terrorists ambushed troops deployed to rescue kidnapped schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
The attack occurred just a day after the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, ordered Operation Fasan Yamma forces to intensify efforts against the bandits responsible for abducting students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.
“You must continue day and night fighting. We must find these children,” Lt. Gen. Shaibu instructed, emphasizing that commanders should act decisively based on intelligence reports. “Once you receive information on something like this, act professionally and decisively. This is not just about our image; it is about doing our job properly,” he added.
Troops were mobilized to maintain continuous operations until all abducted students are safely rescued and reunited with their families.
During the rescue operation, the troops were ambushed. Video footage obtained by DAILY POST shows several injured soldiers lying helplessly, awaiting medical attention. One soldier, speaking in Hausa, was heard saying, “Musa has a bullet lodged in his leg. His condition is very bad.”
The ambush also left the soldiers’ operational vehicle riddled with bullet holes, highlighting the extreme danger faced by personnel in the rescue mission.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over banditry and abductions in northern Nigeria, as security agencies intensify efforts to rescue the kidnapped schoolgirls.
