The Federal Government has filed a 13-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja against six individuals over an alleged plot to overthrow the Nigerian government and commit acts of terrorism.
Those named in the case include retired Major General Mohammed Gana, retired Naval Captain Erasmus Victor, a serving police inspector, Ahmed Ibrahim, and three others, while a former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, is listed as being at large.
They are scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, April 22, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.
According to the charge filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, the defendants are accused of conspiracy to levy war against the state, failure to disclose intelligence on a treasonable plot, and terrorism-related offences.
The government also alleges that the suspects attended meetings linked to plans to destabilise Nigeria’s constitutional structure and provided support for terrorism activities.
Financial charges were also included, with some defendants accused of handling funds suspected to be proceeds of terrorism financing.
The case follows earlier reports of arrests linked to an alleged coup plot, which authorities say is now being prosecuted in court.
