The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Oyo State Chapter, has empowered wives of serving police officers and members of the Late Police Wives Association (LAPOWA) with business equipment, food items and cash support.
The empowerment programme, held on Sunday, saw the distribution of 112 items, including 10 freezers, 10 sewing machines, five grinding machines, 20 gas cylinders, 15 dryers and straighteners, as well as 52 bags of rice.

Twenty beneficiaries also received cash assistance to support their businesses and livelihood activities.
Speaking at the programme, the Chairperson of POWA Oyo State Chapter and Wife of the Commissioner of Police, Mrs Bukola Abimbola, said the initiative was aimed at helping beneficiaries improve their businesses, increase their sources of income and strengthen the economic stability of their families.
Abimbola expressed appreciation to the National Chairperson of POWA, Alhaja Mutiat Disu, for her support and commitment to the empowerment programme.
She said supporting police families remained important to strengthening the home front and improving the welfare of police personnel.
The programme also attracted representatives of wives’ associations from other security and law enforcement agencies, including the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, urged them to make judicious use of the items and financial support, particularly by investing them in their businesses and other productive activities.
The Commissioner said a stronger family support system could contribute to improved morale and welfare among police personnel and ultimately enhance effective service delivery.
The beneficiaries thanked the leadership of POWA, particularly Alhaja Mutiat Disu and Mrs Bukola Abimbola, describing the intervention as timely and valuable.
They said the support would help them strengthen their businesses, improve their livelihoods and provide better support for their families.
The empowerment programme is part of POWA Oyo State Chapter’s efforts to support police families and promote the welfare of serving personnel and members of LAPOWA.
