Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over an unauthorised payment made into one of his private bank accounts.
Atiku, in a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, said the payment was made by an individual unknown to him with the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”
He said neither he nor his campaign authorised or solicited the payment and expressed concern that his confidential banking details may have been compromised.
According to the statement, the account is strictly private and its details are not publicly available, raising questions about how the information was obtained.
Atiku said the alleged breach could have wider implications for the financial privacy and security of Nigerians, particularly if confidential banking information was accessed by individuals with privileged access.
He warned that if established, such a breach could expose account holders to criminals, including kidnappers, terrorists, bandits and fraudsters.
The ADC presidential candidate said security agencies and the Nigerian public had been informed of the incident, which he described as part of a series of suspicious activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku also urged Nigerians not to be distracted by what he described as attempts to damage his reputation as political activities intensify.
He reaffirmed his commitment to providing credible leadership and practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
