Workers of the Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday blocked the entrance to the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, preventing the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and the Acting Permanent Secretary, Dr Folake Olatunji-David, from accessing their offices.
The workers gathered at the entrance as the minister’s motorcade arrived at the premises. Videos from the scene showed protesters chanting, “Alausa must go,” while preventing vehicles from entering the ministry.
The protest is linked to an ongoing dispute between the ministry and its workers’ unions over the proposed concession of King’s College, Lagos, as well as concerns relating to staff welfare and other administrative matters.
The unions have previously called for Alausa’s removal and opposed the reported plan to concession King’s College to its old boys’ association for 35 years.
The latest action indicates that disagreements between the ministry’s management and the workers remain unresolved despite previous engagements between both sides.
