The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has congratulated former Speaker and distinguished stateswoman, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, on her 67th birthday. He described her as a trailblazer, mentor, and nation builder.
In a statement issued in Ibadan to mark the occasion, Ogundoyin commended Sunmonu’s remarkable contributions to legislative governance. He highlighted her historic emergence as the first female Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly during the 7th Assembly.
He noted that her tenure remains a reference point for purposeful leadership, inclusiveness, and unwavering dedication to public service.
The Speaker praised her enduring commitment to the growth and development of Oyo State. He emphasized that her impact continues to resonate across the political landscape.
Ogundoyin also acknowledged her service at the national level. She served as a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. She represented Oyo Central Senatorial District with distinction.
He highlighted her current role as a respected member of the Oyo State Advisory Council, noting that her wealth of experience and counsel stay invaluable to governance and policy direction in the state.
Describing her as a political mentor and mother figure, Ogundoyin said Sunmonu’s guidance and support have played a significant role in shaping the careers of many emerging leaders within and beyond the legislature.
“Distinguished Senator Monsurat Sunmonu is not only an exceptional leader but also a dependable mentor and mother whose influence transcends politics. Her life exemplifies dedication, courage, and selfless service,” the statement read.
He added that her journey continues to inspire a new generation of leaders, particularly women in politics.
