Babaduni Gbolabo, personal assistant to late Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, has recounted the desperate efforts to secure medical attention for the singer before his death in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Gbolabo said the singer was rushed to several hospitals after he slumped, but efforts to obtain medical assistance were unsuccessful. According to him, they visited about seven or eight hospitals during the search for treatment.
Speaking in an interview, the personal assistant disclosed that he was not with Toluwanisings when the incident occurred but received an urgent call asking him to come immediately after the singer slumped.
“We rushed him to UCH first, but they were on strike. We had to start moving from one hospital to another. We took him to about seven or eight hospitals, but nothing could be done,” he said.
The account has drawn attention to the circumstances surrounding the gospel singer’s final hours, particularly the reported difficulty in securing medical attention.
Toluwanisings died in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14, 2026, aged 41. His family confirmed his death in a statement shared on his verified social media pages but did not disclose the cause of death.
Singer Performed Hours Before His Death
According to the PA’s account, the incident happened hours after Toluwanisings participated in In His Presence, a worship programme hosted by gospel singer Bidemi Olaoba in Ibadan on Tuesday night.
Gbolabo said the singer had shown no obvious signs of illness before his sudden collapse, leaving those around him shocked by the development.
The singer’s death has sparked widespread grief among fans, colleagues and members of the gospel music community, with tributes continuing to pour in.
Toluwanisings was known for his energetic praise performances and songs, including Eleda and I’m Not Alone. His death also came about three months after he and members of his music team survived a road accident involving a heavy-duty trailer while returning from a ministration in July.
The family has said funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
