Molete Attack: Odidiomo Gives Oriyomi Hamzat 72 Hours to Retract Allegations or Face Legal Action

The campaign organisation of Oyo South senatorial candidate Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo, has given broadcaster and politician Oriyomi Hamzat 72 hours to retract allegations linking the lawmaker to the recent attack in Molete, Ibadan, or face legal action.

The Odidiomo Campaign Organisation described the allegations as malicious, unsubstantiated and defamatory, demanding evidence to support the claims or a public retraction and apology.

In a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday, October 15, 2026, the organisation’s spokesperson, Tolu Mustapha, said its legal team would be directed to initiate court proceedings if Hamzat failed to comply with its demands.

The controversy followed a Facebook Live broadcast on Oriyomi Hamzat Live, during which the broadcaster displayed a fez cap allegedly belonging to Odidiomo, the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District.

According to the campaign organisation, Hamzat alleged during the broadcast that individuals wearing similar customised caps attacked him during the Molete disturbance. He also reportedly linked the same group to an earlier alleged assault involving lawmaker Remi Oseni.

The organisation, however, denied that Odidiomo had any involvement in the incident, insisting that the allegations were not supported by verifiable evidence.

“We have no business with you, and we are not contesting for the same position,” the statement read.

The campaign organisation challenged Hamzat to provide evidence establishing what happened during the incident, identifying those involved and demonstrating the connection between the alleged attacks.

It demanded that Hamzat produce verifiable evidence within 24 hours to substantiate his claims that the alleged attackers wore Odidiomo’s campaign caps and that the same individuals were involved in the reported assault on Oseni.

The organisation further demanded that, if he could not substantiate the allegations, he should remove the video from social media, publish a five-minute video retracting the claims and issue a formal public apology.

It said the apology should be published in five major national newspapers and 10 leading online news platforms within 72 hours.

The organisation warned that failure to meet its demands would prompt it to pursue legal action over alleged criminal defamation and libel.

The development comes amid heightened political tensions following Wednesday’s attack on a group welcoming Hamzat back to Ibadan. The Oyo State Police Command confirmed that the incident resulted in the death of 40-year-old Azeez Tajudeen, who sustained a severe injury to his right eye.

The police said the group was attacked by suspected hoodlums shortly after leaving Molete while heading towards Iwo Road, where the Agidigbo FM office is located. The Command Monitoring Unit has been directed to investigate the incident.

The Odidiomo Campaign Organisation urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified claims capable of damaging reputations, particularly as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
