Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed allegations by the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) that he is attempting to undermine the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu through his presidential ambition, describing the claims as misplaced.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor said the allegations lacked substance and reflected anxiety within the campaign organisation rather than facts.
Makinde, who is the presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), said his ambition was driven by a desire to reset Nigeria and build a country that works for all citizens.
He maintained that his record of constructive engagement, bridge-building and issue-driven governance demonstrated his commitment to responsible leadership.
The governor also questioned SSACO’s claim that he stood no chance against the incumbent president, asking why the organisation remained focused on his candidacy if it considered him politically insignificant.
Makinde further accused the campaign organisation of showing apprehension through its repeated criticism of Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, the APM governorship candidate in Oyo State.
He said his political engagement at the national level was focused on issues, stability and competence, adding that the criticism would not derail his presidential ambition.
The statement concluded that Makinde’s support across the country reflected a candidacy he described as being built on substance and conviction rather than political distractions.
