Tension was reported in Benue State on Tuesday after suspected thugs allegedly disrupted the movement of presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, shortly after he arrived in the state.
Obi’s media aide, Esther Umoh, raised the alarm in a post on X, accompanied by a video showing what appeared to be a road blockade along the route.
According to Umoh, the incident occurred around Boko Road, near the Air Force Base, where she alleged that some individuals had blocked the road in an attempt to stop Obi and his entourage from proceeding into the state.
She wrote that the group were “alleged sponsored thugs” who had obstructed the route shortly after the delegation arrived.
A second video shared by the media aide showed several individuals running towards vehicles within the convoy.
Umoh alleged that the movement was part of an attempt to attack members of the entourage.
However, the identity of the individuals seen in the videos and the circumstances that led to the confrontation could not be independently established at the time of reporting.
There was also no immediate official response from the Benue State Government or the police regarding the incident.
The development comes as Obi continues his political engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the former Anambra State governor recently making appearances at political events in different parts of the country.
