The situation at the Oke Ado Market area in Ibadan has taken a more serious turn following this morning’s fatal crash involving a fully loaded fuel tanker and a commercial tricycle (Keke).
The tricycle operator was confirmed dead on the spot after the collision.
According to latest updates, members of the Tricycle Operators Association have reportedly blocked officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other emergency recovery teams from evacuating the accident scene.
The union is said to be insisting on a formal compensation arrangement for the deceased driver’s family before allowing any movement of the vehicles involved.
The tanker involved is reportedly still fully loaded with fuel, raising significant concern among responders due to the heightened fire and explosion risk in a densely populated market environment.
Emergency responders are currently in a difficult operational standoff situation as they attempt to manage both safety and clearance of the road.
Motorists heading toward key parts of the city including Molete, Liberty Road, and Dugbe are strongly advised to avoid the corridor entirely and seek alternative routes, as movement in and out of the axis remains severely restricted.
Residents and commuters are urged to stay clear of the area, prioritize safety, and allow emergency responders space to de-escalate the situation and carry out necessary evacuation procedures.
