The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into an attack on a group of people welcoming broadcaster and politician Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat back to Ibadan, which resulted in the death of a 40-year-old man.
The incident reportedly occurred after the group left Molete and proceeded towards Iwo Road, where the Agidigbo FM office is located. The police said the attack was allegedly carried out by suspected hoodlums.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said a report of the incident was lodged at a police station by Kehinde Samuel Ibikunle.

He was rushed for medical attention and later taken to the State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, where he was examined and confirmed dead. His remains have been deposited at the hospital morgue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has directed that the case be transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for a discreet investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and bring those responsible to justice.
The command also urged political aspirants, party leaders and event organisers to notify the police at least 48 hours before planned processions or public gatherings to enable adequate security arrangements and prevent breaches of public peace.
