The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced a Device Checker service that allows Nigerians to verify mobile phones before purchasing them, particularly second-hand devices, to avoid counterfeit and non-compliant phones.
The service enables consumers to check their devices by dialling *315# on their mobile phones, providing a way to verify devices before completing a purchase.
The initiative is aimed at helping buyers make informed decisions and reducing the risk of purchasing phones that do not meet the required standards.
With the growing market for fairly used mobile phones, the service could help consumers take an additional precaution before paying for a device, especially when buying from informal vendors or individual sellers.
Consumers are advised to verify a phone before making payment to reduce the risk of buying a counterfeit or non-compliant device.
