The Oyo State Police Command says it has rescued a 15-year-old boy abducted from the Onidundun area of Akinyele Local Government Area and neutralised a suspected kidnapper during a security operation along the Awe-Iwo Road axis.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement dated October 25, 2026, saying the operation followed intelligence received on October 22 that suspected kidnappers were demanding ransom for the victim’s release.
According to the statement, Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga directed operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Section, working with the Oyo Zone Vigilante Group of Nigeria, to track the suspects and rescue the victim.
The security team reportedly moved to the Pipeline, Ajagba axis along the Awe-Iwo Road, where a gun duel broke out at about 9:30 p.m. on October 22 after the suspects allegedly opened fire on the advancing operatives.
The victim, identified as Sumaila Muhammadu, was rescued during the operation, while one unidentified suspected kidnapper was neutralised. The Police said other gang members fled with suspected gunshot injuries.
The statement added that a medical doctor confirmed the death of the neutralised suspect at a hospital before his body was deposited at a morgue. Operatives also recovered an Android mobile phone and a cutlass at the scene.
The Command has urged residents around the Awe-Iwo Road axis and neighbouring communities to report anyone with suspicious gunshot wounds. Medical practitioners and hospital administrators have also been asked to notify the Police of patients whose injuries may be connected to the incident.
The Police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes, urging members of the public to provide credible information that could help locate the fleeing suspects.
