House of Representatives Lawmaker representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on National Inland Waterways, Ojotun Ojema has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The defection ceremony, held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Government House in Makurdi, drew massive crowds and was marked by cheers and jubilation from party supporters and top government officials.
Explaining his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ojema said it was both a spiritual and strategic move inspired by divine direction and a desire to contribute meaningfully to the ongoing development of Benue State.
Reflecting on his record in public service, Ojema recalled his tenure as State Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiation Councils, where he led efforts that resulted in the approval of the N30,000 minimum wage.
He commended Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia for sustaining regular payment of workersβ salaries, describing it as a realization of his long-standing advocacy for civil servantsβ welfare.
Ojema expressed strong support for Governor Aliaβs infrastructural initiatives, particularly road projects linking Agatu and Gwer West Local Government Areas, which he noted would enhance mobility, political engagement, and regional growth.
Speaking on the divine guidance behind his political journey, Ojema said, βI always seek the face of God before taking any decision.
Just as I resigned as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in obedience to Godβs directive to contest for the House of Reps, He has now directed me to join the APC. My movement is for three main objectives the reelection of President Tinubu, Governor Alia, and myself in 2027.β
He also lauded Governor Alia as βa fantastic leader who has proven to the world that he is the best thing to happen to our state,β adding that he now regards the Governor as his new political father after parting ways with his former party.
