The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, on Tuesday held a strategic security meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle security challenges across the state.
The closed-door meeting comes amid growing concerns over recent security incidents in Oyo State, including the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area and recurring criminal activities reported in parts of the Oke-Ogun region.
During the visit, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin commended the Police Commissioner for the impact he has made since his deployment to Oyo State. He also praised the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in maintaining peace and security across the state.
The Speaker specifically acknowledged ongoing operations aimed at securing the release of the abducted pupils and teachers, expressing confidence in the professionalism and commitment of security personnel involved in the rescue efforts.
Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin also emphasized the need for stronger security measures in border communities across Oyo State, noting that criminal elements often exploit porous borders and remote locations to perpetrate kidnappings, attacks, and other crimes.
He called for enhanced intelligence gathering, increased patrol operations, and sustained proactive policing strategies to protect lives and property, particularly in vulnerable communities.
Discussions during the meeting also focused on implementing several security-related resolutions recently adopted by the Oyo State House of Assembly in response to emerging security concerns across different parts of the state.
Reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to public safety, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin stated that the protection of lives and property remains a top legislative priority. He expressed optimism that continued collaboration among the legislature, security agencies, and the executive arm of government would further strengthen peace, stability, and public confidence across Oyo State.
