The Oyo State House of Assembly has congratulated its Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, on the successful completion of his tenure as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, describing his leadership as transformative and nationally impactful.
The congratulatory message was issued on Tuesday by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Media, Public Affairs and ICT, Hon. Waheed Akintayo, who said Ogundoyin’s over two-year tenure set a new benchmark for legislative leadership across the country.
Hon. Akintayo noted that the Speaker effectively used the office to reposition and modernise legislative practice at the sub-national level, recording what he described as “outstanding achievements” that deepened accountability, transparency and public trust in governance.
According to the Assembly, Ogundoyin’s tenure witnessed increased public awareness of legislative activities and decisions, helping to strengthen citizen engagement with State Houses of Assembly nationwide.
The statement further highlighted that Ogundoyin made history as the youngest Speaker ever elected Chairman of the Conference and the first Speaker from an opposition party to occupy the position — a development that paved the way for bold reforms within state legislatures.
Among the major milestones recorded under his leadership were the digitalisation of legislative processes, the establishment of Post-Legislative Scrutiny Units across State Assemblies, and sustained advocacy for fiscal transparency and improved revenue governance at the sub-national level.
The Assembly also commended the Speaker for firmly defending the autonomy of State Legislatures while promoting healthy executive-legislative relations through strategic engagement with key national institutions.
In addition, Ogundoyin was praised for strengthening collaboration with international development partners, advancing constitutional reform conversations, promoting women and youth inclusion in governance, and fostering industrial harmony through constructive engagement with parliamentary staff bodies.
The House noted that his leadership amplified inter-state cooperation and projected a united, credible voice for State Assemblies on national issues, describing his tenure as one marked by innovation, courage, inclusivity and institutional strengthening.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State House of Assembly congratulated the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, on his election as the new Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, wishing him a successful and impactful tenure.
