The Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver involved in the fatal December 29, 2025 crash that claimed the lives of heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.
Kayode, 46, was arraigned on January 2, 2026, and faced four charges: dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care resulting in bodily harm and property damage, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence. The charges are under the Federal Highway Act, 2004.
The adjournment, requested by the prosecution to allow duplication of the case file to the state Attorney General for advice, was granted by Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun. The case will now resume on February 25, 2026. Kayode remains out on ₦5 million bail with two sureties.
The accident occurred when Joshua’s Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Joshua and Kayode sustained minor injuries, while the two deceased were later repatriated to the United Kingdom. A funeral prayer for Ghami and Ayodele was held on January 4, 2026, at the London Central Mosque, followed by burial at Hendon Cemetery.
The deaths of Ghami and Ayodele sent shockwaves through the global boxing community, as both were central to Joshua’s training and preparation.
