The convention, which took place in Ibadan in November 2025, produced a new National Working Committee (NWC) led by Taminu Turaki. Shortly after the exercise, dissenting party members, led by Nwachukwu, approached the court, challenging the legality of the convention and seeking to halt the operation of the new leadership.
However on Friday, 27th February, 2026, Justice Ladiran Akintola of Court 5 dismissed an application for stay of proceedings filed by the plaintiffs and granted all 13 reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, who was represented by his counsel, Musbau Adetunmbi.
In validating the convention, the court affirmed that the processes leading to the election of the PDP leadership complied with the partyโs constitution and relevant electoral guidelines. The ruling also legally reinforces the authority of the PDP National Working Committee inaugurated after the Ibadan convention.
The judgment comes against the backdrop of prolonged internal disputes within the PDP over leadership succession, zoning arrangements, and control of party structures ahead of future elections.
With this ruling, legal observers say the decision is expected to stabilise the partyโs national leadership and shift attention back to internal reconciliation and preparations for upcoming political contests.
