The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has denied claims by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, that he consulted with the Alaafin and other leading traditional rulers on the rotational chairmanship of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

The Alaafin, in a statement issued by the palace on Wednesday, said he neither held any meeting with the governor on the matter, nor did he engage in any discussion with the Olubadan of Ibadanland or the Soun of Ogbomoso as suggested.

The palace described the claim of consultation as inaccurate, stressing that at no time did the Alaafin express support for or endorse a rotational chairmanship arrangement among the three traditional rulers in the state.
According to the statement, the position of the Alaafin and the wider Oyo community on the leadership of the State Council of Obas and Chiefs has already been clearly communicated to the state government through a memorandum submitted by the Oyo Council of Elders.
The statement, signed by Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin, reiterated that the Alaafin remains guided by established tradition and the collective position of the Oyo people on issues concerning Yoruba traditional institutions.
The denial comes amid growing Bode Durojaiye debate over the structure and leadership of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, a matter that has continued to attract attention from stakeholders across the state.
