The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a 26-year-old man, identified as Kehinde Asimiyu, following an alleged stabbing incident at Olodo Garage in Ibadan.
The Police said the incident was reported on November 1, 2026, after the deceased was allegedly stabbed with a broken bottle by one Taiwo Babarinde during an altercation.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the deceased’s family was alerted to the incident when an unidentified motorcycle rider arrived at their residence and informed them of the attack.
Police operatives subsequently mobilised to the scene, while the victim was rushed to Academy Hospital, Texaco, Iwo Road, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
His remains were later deposited at Adejare Embalming Centre for preservation as preliminary investigative procedures commenced.
The Police identified the two arrested suspects as Taiwo Babarinde, who is suspected of inflicting the fatal injury, and Ishola Semiu, who is also suspected of involvement in the incident.
The Command said both suspects were in Police custody, while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Command disclosed that unrest erupted at the Olodo Police Outpost following the incident, raising concerns about a possible breakdown of law and order.
It said additional security personnel and operational assets were deployed to the area, with support from the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other local law enforcement agencies.
The coordinated security operation, according to the Police, has helped restore normalcy, with personnel maintaining a presence in the area to prevent further disturbances and protect residents.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, also directed the Area Commander, Moniya, to engage community stakeholders towards addressing the situation and preventing a recurrence.
Acting on the directive, the Area Commander held a meeting on Tuesday with representatives of the Local Council Development Area (LCDA), leaders of tricycle and motorcycle operators, and youth leaders to discuss practical solutions, improve communication with security agencies and promote peaceful coexistence.
The Police reassured residents of Olodo and its environs that adequate security measures remained in place to protect lives and property, warning individuals or groups against inciting violence or exploiting the situation to cause unrest.
The Commissioner urged residents to remain calm, shun violence and embrace dialogue, while encouraging them to provide credible and timely information to security agencies.
The Command also advised residents to contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on 615 or the Police Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413 in case of emergencies.
