𝐎𝐲𝐨 @𝟓𝟎: 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐀𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐋𝐆𝐀𝐬

The Oyo State Government has rolled out a statewide free medical outreach as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state, popularly known as Oyo @50.

The initiative, which is being implemented across the state’s 33 local government areas, is designed to improve access to healthcare services, particularly for elderly citizens, children and youths, pregnant women, and persons living with disabilities. The programme is also expected to contribute to improved productivity and increased life expectancy among residents.

Speaking during a monitoring tour of the health outreach exercise, the Chairman of the Oyo @50 Celebration Planning Committee, Hon. Saheed Fijabi, explained that the free medical programme reflects the commitment of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration to prioritising the wellbeing of the people.

According to Fijabi, the outreach was deliberately funded as part of the anniversary celebrations to serve as a practical way of giving back to the public. He recalled similar social interventions during the administration of the late Chief Bola Ige, noting that such initiatives positively impacted citizens and should be sustained.

He further encouraged residents of the state to take advantage of the opportunity by participating fully in the exercise, stressing that good health remains critical to social stability and economic growth.

Also speaking, a member of the Oyo @50 Planning Committee and Senior Special Assistant on Broadcast Media to the Governor, Mrs. Bosede Sodiq, commended the cooperation and support of residents towards the current administration. She urged citizens to use the outreach to assess their health status and seek early medical attention where necessary.

Mrs. Sodiq also disclosed that activities lined up for the Oyo @50 celebration include film exhibitions across the five zones of the state, aimed at showcasing the historical journey of Oyo State while projecting future development plans.

The ongoing medical outreach has visited several Primary Health Care Centres in Ibadan, including facilities in Basorun, Oje-Alafara Aderogba, and Oritayọ, among others, with more locations expected to benefit as the programme continues.
